Time for people, decimals for payroll
Clocks speak hours and minutes; payroll and billing systems speak decimals. The conversion is minutes ÷ 60, rounded to two places: 7:45 becomes 7.75, and 7:20 becomes 7.33. The classic mistake is reading the minutes as the decimal (7:30 is 7.5 hours, never 7.3); the second classic is adding rounded per-day decimals into a weekly total, which drifts from the true figure.

Divide the minutes by 60 and add to the hours: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7 + 45÷60 = 7.75. Payroll convention rounds to two decimal places, so 20 minutes is 0.33 and 50 minutes is 0.83.
Because an hour has 60 minutes, not 100. Reading 7:30 as "7.3" is the single most common timesheet mistake: 30 minutes is half an hour, so 7:30 is 7.5 decimal hours.
No: add the minutes first, then convert once. Five days of 7:50 is 39:10, which is 39.17 hours; adding five rounded 7.83s gives 39.15 and shorts the week by over a minute. The batch converter's total is computed the correct way.
